Loft insulation in loft conversions

Its very important that the correct loft insulation is used in a loft conversion. Building regulations dictate what type of insulation we have to fit as we have to make sure the ‘U Values’ or heat loss  factor is correct and the loft rooms are fire protected.

There are 3 main types of loft insulation we have to fit in a loft conversion to comply to these regulations.

Correct loft insulation

The 1st part of insulating your loft is to insulate the new loft floor. This loft insulation has to be thermal for heat loss, acoustic for sound transfer but mainly to achieve a 30 minute for barrier between the 1st to 2nd floors.

The next part of insulating your loft is to insulate the side walls, gable end walls and roof slopes with 2 different types of loft insulation.

We fit a rigid 70 mm foil backed insulation in between your existing roof rafters, maintaining a 50 mm air gap between your insulation and your roofing felt ( for ventilation purposes )

We then pull and fix a multi foil loft insulation roll over the top of the rigid insulation board to achieve the building regulations criteria for the ‘U Value’.

It is always recommended that you consult a specialist loft conversion company an experienced Architect  or your local Building Regulations Department when installing loft insulation as only certain products have the British Standard Certification required for loft insulation in loft conversions.

One of the biggest challenges with loft conversions is where the new staircase will fit and what will the new loft stairs look like.

But not here at ReStyle. We manufacture bespoke loft stairs for every single loft conversion we undertake making sure we match the loft stairs to your existing stairs.

This is exactly what we have just done on  a 120 year old listed building in Eckington, near Sheffield.

Our challenge was to manufacture a cut string staircase with a continuous hardwood handrail  that had to match the original 120 year old staircase.

As you can see from the image above the staircase looks amazing and has drawn much attention from the English heritage council who have praised our attention to detail.

We have recently started work on this fantastic semi detached property in Sheffield. As well as undertaking attic and loft conversions from scratch we also convert existing attic rooms.

Plastering a loft conversion in Rotherham

Rotherham Loft Conversion

We have recently started work on this Modern Truss Loft Conversion In Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

We are transforming this loft into a bedroom with en-suite shower room and a games room.

We are 5 weeks into the this Rotherham loft conversion and have just fitted the staircase and the insulation all to building regulations. As the above image shows we have just started the plastering around the staircase. The plastering takes around 4 days to complete and the we move onto the final stage which fitting the fire doors, skirting boards and staircase balustrade.

ReStyle would like to say a massive thank you to Sarah for letting our team of highly skilled tradesmen and ice sculptors build a snowman on their drive for their daughter Lucy.

This snowman conversion was completed on time ( 2 hours ) and on budget ( free of charge ) thankfully we didn’t need planning permission for this conversion.
