Loft Stairs

One of the biggest challenges with loft conversions is where the new staircase will fit and what will the new loft stairs look like.

However this is not a problem for us at ReStyle as our managing director Craig Wilkinson and our Project Manager David Watkinson are bench joiners by trade and have 0ver 30 years experience in manufacturing bespoke staircases.

Most builders and loft conversion companies will buy a standard size staircase ‘ Off the shelf ‘ and cut and carve the loft staircase until it fits.

But not here at ReStyle. We manufacture bespoke loft stairs for every single loft conversion we undertake making sure we match the loft stairs to your existing stairs.

This is exactly what we have just done on  a 120 year old listed building in Eckington, near Sheffield.

Our challenge was to manufacture a cut string staircase with a continuous hardwood handrail  that had to match the original 120 year old staircase.

As you can see from the image above the staircase looks amazing and has drawn much attention from the English heritage council who have praised our attention to detail.

ReStyle would like to say a massive thank you to Sarah for letting our team of highly skilled tradesmen and ice sculptors build a snowman on their drive for their daughter Lucy.

This snowman conversion was completed on time ( 2 hours ) and on budget ( free of charge ) thankfully we didn’t need planning permission for this conversion.

Although the snow may have stopped Sarah’s loft conversion our team still made Lucy’s day by spending time building her a snowman.

Dormer Window Being Constructed On This Sheffield Loft Conversion

This Large 3 bedroom semi detached property in Ecclesall, Sheffield has under gone a huge loft conversion. The property had a hip and pitched style roof that is commonly found on 3 bed semi’s.

Our customers wanted to maximize the whole loft area to create a large master bedroom with an en-suite shower room. To enable us to maximize the loft space we removed the side hip sloping roof structure and replaced it with a gable end. We also constructed a large dormer window to the rear elevation( shown in the above image ) to create more headroom and floor space.

We installed a pair of French doors with a wrought iron Juliet balcony to give the master bedroom a WOW factor feature and also fitted a window to the en-suite shower room.

2 Velux windows have been fitted to the front elevation to let daylight into the bedroom and the new stairwell.

Installation of Velux windows

Velux windows are a fantastic way of flooding your loft conversion with natural daylight. The give the sense of space, light and can be fitted side by side as in the image above to form a feature window in any loft conversion

These velux windows are being fitted into  a modern truss loft conversion in Halfway in Sheffield. They are forming part of a master bedroom that also includes an en-suite shower room.

There are different style of Velux windows and different sizes. We do not fit the center pivot Velux windows as a Velux window is usually fitted at a height  you can see out of. If you have a Velux window that pivots inwards you could bang your head on it.

We only fit the higher specification GHL top hung Velux window as these Velux window open upwards outside the roof slope ( see the above image ) These windows are more practical and form a feature within your new rooms. They also spin inside out for the ease of cleaning the external pane of glass.

We believe that if you are having Velux windows in your loft conversion you need to maximize the size of the Velux window. There is no point in have small Velux windows installed into your loft conversion as you are not going to maximize the daylight coming through the Velux window.

We always fit large Velux windows, our most popular size window is the GHL MO8. The size of the Velux window is 1400 mm in height x 780 mm in width.

A combination of innovative design and the very latest technologies, we use high-tensile steel beams that allows us to remove the W-shaped rafters and open up your loft to create the space needed for your new loft conversion.

These steel beams are fitted within the new floor structure and are not seen. The beams are specially designed by our structural engineer and manufactured for each individual loft conversion project and our work is fully compliant with most stringent building regulations (It’s actually stronger than before!)
