John and Alison

It’s not just older homes that benefit from loft conversions. Re-Style Loft Conversions also work on modern properties.
This was the case when John and Alison Wardle wanted to extend their three- bedroomed detached house in Stannington. They moved into the house 15 years ago, immediately after it had been built. The property is split-level. The ground floor included an integral garage, one bedroom and a bathroom. Upstairs were two more bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge, kitchen and conservatory.
The Wardles wanted to convert their loft space into two bedrooms, with a bathroom linking them. The 20ft master bedroom was for them, with a separate walk-in-wardrobe, and the other bedroom was for their seven-year-old son, Sam. Using the loft space has allowed the Wardles to convert one of the bedrooms downstairs into a dining room. “We did a lot of reading-up about the conversion.” says Alison. “We called a number of firms who said we would have to replace the whole roof structure to do what we wanted.”
Then John and Alison contacted Craig Wilkinson, of Re-Style Lofts, who offer a complete design service. Their in-house architect and structural engineer worked to the Wardles’ requirements and designed a unique steel-beam structure that supported the roof and ceilings in the floor below. This meant the roof did not need replacing, which saved a great deal of expense.
Says Alison: “We chose Re-Style Lofts because they were the most efficient and knowledgeable firm we called. They explained everything very clearly, and quoted a competitive price.”
Besides the fitting of steel beams and new floorboards, eight new Velux windows were installed, and a new staircase up into the loft. Re-style Lofts erected wall partitions and did all the plastering, electrical and plumbing work, which included fitting five new radiators. The project was completed on schedule in nine weeks.
“Re-Style Lofts did everything apart from the decorating,” says Alison. “They were fantastic; the cleanest, most polite workmen we have ever had in our house. They tidied up and vacuumed every night before they left.”
Re-Style deal with all necessary planning permissions and building regulations. The company’s qualified joiners, plasterers, electricians and plumbers ensure that every loft conversion is completed to the highest standard.
